Established in a basement, in 1993, OmniLEC (formerly BitWise Systems), actually started off
as a computer networking, sales, and repair company. After a short time, we moved to
the upstairs office and started our Internet business. In December 1997,
BitWise moved from its Peoria Heights location to a retail space
at the intersection of University and Glen in Peoria. By 1998, we were
becoming too large for our small staff. It was decided at that time to
find a larger office and hire more employees. In August 1999, BitWise
Systems was incorporated and moved to a storefront on Pioneer Parkway. By the end of
2003, we held over 200 dial-up cities covering most of central Illinois.
On June 1st 2004, we moved to 682 High Point Lane in East Peoria. On November 30th 2006,
the move was made to our current office located at 331 Fulton St. Suite 300 in Peoria.
In the summer of 2000, we began deployment of our High Speed Wireless
network, offering residential and commercial broadband access to customers
both inside and outside the range of cable or DSL.
After
years of planning and negotiations, we achieved our CLEC status with the
State of Illinois late into 2001. In the fall of 2002, we consolidated
our Network Operations Center into our own state-of-the-art facilities
located in downtown Peoria. With multiple backbone connections we offer
unprecedented network stability. We were then able to terminate our own
calls and continue to be the low price leader in the Internet Services
industry. Becoming a CLEC enabled us to provide high speed Internet and
phone service to customers in specific cities. In December 2004, Bitwise
Systems dial-up was sold in order to give full attention to our growing phone
business. In 2005, the company name became OmniLEC.
